Obituary of Susan Corum Brooks
Susan Corum Brooks went to be with her Lord on August 8, 2018 at the age of 98. She was born on February 21, 1920 in Norwalk, Los Angeles County, California to Wesley Keener Corum and N. Pearl Whitmore. She is survived by her children, Linden Arthur Brooks, (Valerie) of Red Bluff and Nancy Sue Jones (Gary) of Brownsville and 4 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren. Susan was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Hubert Linden Brooks and six siblings. During WWII Susan worked for Douglas Aircraft in Long Beach where she met her husband. They moved to Live Oak in 1950. Susan worked for 5 years for State Farm Insurance in Yuba City, for 20 years for Stanfield Insurance in Marysville. She retired in 1976 but later worked part time for Sunny’s Market in Live Oak as their bookkeeper. Susan and Hubert sold their dairy farm west of Live Oak in the mid-1980s and moved to Brownsville. Susan was an active member of the Nazarene Church in Whittier, Live Oak, Yuba City and Marysville. She taught Sunday school, led the Junior Department, led the Caravan Program, played the piano, sang solos, and led children musicals. Even in retirement she was leading senior activities at her church. In retirement she enjoyed her grandchildren, gardening, quilting, painting, traveling and camping. A memorial service will be held on August 25, 2018 at 2 p.m. at Marysville Church of the Nazarene located at the corner of Covillaud and East 16th street in Marysville. Reverend Ray Wisner will be officiating.
