Obituary of Leonard Ralph "Lennie" Meyer

Leonard Ralph (Lennie) Meyer was a force of love greater than life could contain. On January 21st, 2017, in his 85th year, this life could no longer contain Lennie Meyer. Lennie was born on April 8, 1931, in Petaluma, CA, and passed away January 21st, 2017, in Marysville, CA. He was preceded in death by his son Randy, his parents, and his brothers John, George, and Don. He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Sally, his brothers Ray (Fran) of Portland, OR, and Andy (Tina) of Weed, CA, his sister Beulah (Pete, deceased) of Chico, CA, his son, Michael (Shirley, deceased) of Hallwood, CA, daughter Terri (Mike) of Hallwood, CA, and daughter-in-law, Cathy (Randy, deceased) of Yuba City, CA. He is also survived by four grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter. He was the third child of John C. and Nellie (Stevenson) Meyer. The family moved to Oroville temporarily, then to Loma Rica, eventually ending up on a 2000 acre ranch in Brownsville where they tended cattle and milled lumber. He graduated from Marysville High school in 1949, where he was an outstanding athlete. He met the love of his life, Sally Ann Brackney, in 1950 and they eloped shortly thereafter. They had three children, Michael, Randy, and Terri, and moved to Hallwood in 1955. Lennie worked as a sign engineer for the Division of Highways until purchasing his brother's tax business, Meyer Bookkeeping of Marysville, in 1965. Together with his son, Randy, he faithfully served his clients until his retirement in 2007. As a young man, he was a talented infielder for several area baseball teams, playing alongside many to-be professional players, and continued to coach his sons in youth baseball teams for a number of years. He was once heard telling his grandson that had he been a few inches taller and a few steps faster, he could have played professional ball. He continued to play ball at any opportunity, from in the yard with his kids, grandkids and great-grandkids to the Liberty Christian Center softball team. He also belonged to the Twin Cities Lion's Club. Lennie was always busy, if he didn't answer his door with a big smile and hug, he could be found working meticulously on his property, tending his vibrant garden, taking long drives through the foothills with his wife, Sally, fighting the never-ending battle against leaves in his pool, or attending the ball games of one of his many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He left behind a wonderful legacy for his friends and family to follow, and will be sorely missed by all who had the blessing to know him. Services will be held at 12:30 pm on Saturday, January 28th, 2017 at Hallwood Nazarene (2825 State Hwy 20, Hallwood, CA) with a reception following at the same location.
