Obituary of Lavern Dale "Vern" Foster
Lavern Dale Foster, age 67, of Olivehurst, passed away peacefully at home with his loving family by his side on August 6, 2016. He was born on April 9, 1949, in Marysville, California to Frank and Hazel (Smith) Foster. He was born to a large family and attended local schools. Vern served in the U.S. Navy and was proud to be a SeaBee. He was a long time member of the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, and Operating Engineers Local 3, earning Volunteer of the Year in 2008. Vern led a good life. He was proud of his service and his chosen careers, truck driving and heavy equipment. He enjoyed being a stepfather as well as special times with friends in his dune buggy, motorcycle, boat, camper, converted van, tent trailer, and travel trailers. Vern was also fond of camping, traveling California, and smoking. He will be remembered for his sense of humor, his unwavering opinions, and his zest for life. Vern is survived by his wife and friend, Marietta Foster; step children: Matthew (Berniece) and Samantha (John); siblings: Mary of Ohio, Leila of Marysville, Charlotte of Olivehurst, Charles (Linda) of Texas, Joan of Olivehurst, Delbert (Marie) of Browns Valley, and Adeline (Sal) of New Mexico; a special uncle, Bill Smith, aunts, many nieces, nephews, cousins, and long time friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, brothers, Buddy and Frank, and sister, Sharon. A funeral service will be held on Monday, August 15, at 10 a.m. at Sierra View Mortuary with committal to follow at Sierra View Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Vern's name to Rideout Hospice or the Department of Veterans Affairs. Sierra View Mortuary is assisting the family with the arrangements.
