Obituary of Richard Dean "Rick" Browning
Richard "Rick" Dean Browning was born November 9th, 1961 to Dale and Verna Browning. Rick grew up in Olivehurst, California and after High School graduation Rick attended Yuba Community College and then Chico State University. Rick joined the U.S. Navy January 24th, 1984 as a Sonar Technician completing his technical skills training in San Diego. He was assigned to the USS Richard E. Byrd DDG-23 in Norfolk, Virginia. During his 4 years in the Navy, he was able to visit 18 different countries. After the Navy, he returned to school to complete my Physical Therapist Assistant degree, and then worked in Physical Therapy for 27 years. In 2005, he returned to the military and as a civilian, working as the Director of Quality for the 9th Medical Group at Beale AFB for 10 years. During his free time, Rick loved sports - especially running and was always up for a challenge, such as running a 50 mile race when he was 50 years old. He also loved bowling and archery. Those that best knew Rick, knew that he loved his family who would do anything for his wife, Cheryl, and son, Heath. He also had a mischievous side, often telling jokes and playing pranks. He always wanted the people around me to smile. Rick passed away on March 11th, 2016. Rick is survived by his wife Cheryl, son, Heath, his sisters Darlene Johnson, Dalene Kimbrell, Denise Browning, Debra Papadopolous, brother Russell Browning, brothers-in-law Dale and Eugene, and sister-in law Julie Browning. Throughout Rick's life and even during his battle with cancer, his outlook was never angry. He chose to focus on how blessed he was to have his family and friends through the good times and the bad Rick always said: "We believe in God and heaven and when we finally complete that journey, it will be like winning the spiritual lottery. I am not afraid and I am not sad. We will see each other again!" Rick will be greatly missed, but not forgotten! A funeral service will be held on Friday, March 18th, at 1 p.m. at Sierra View Mortuary with committal to follow at 2:30 p.m. at Sierra View Memorial Park. Visitation will be held at the mortuary from 10 a.m. until the service time.
