Obituary of Carl Burdett Purdy

Carl Burdett Purdy, age 85, of Yuba City, passed away peacefully on December 10, 2015. He was born on November 3, 1930, in Washington, Pennsylvania to Lawrence and Mabel (Livingston) Purdy. Carl served in the U.S. Army in Korea and received 3 bronze stars. After his service, he moved to Southern California and worked for Pacific Bell Telephone Company where he retired as a PBX Supervisor. He then moved back to Northern California to be closer to his family and settled in Yuba City. He was a member of Plumas Lake Golf Course where he enjoyed many years of golf with his brothers and friends. Carl was also a member of the Moose Lodge, S.I.R.s and Pioneers of America. He enjoyed many years of fishing, camping and gold prospecting with his family, and he especially enjoyed taking his wife to Collins Lake in the spring to fish. Carl also was an avid poker player and loved to play Cribbage with his family. He very much loved his family, and he loved that they were always with him during his last days. Carl is survived by his son, Donald Purdy of Yuba City; daughter: Joann Cortez of Yuba City; siblings: Jim (Patty) Purdy of Vacaville, CA and Linda (Jay) Knudson of Portola, CA; sister-in-law: Beatrice Purdy of Napa, CA; brothers-in-law: Bill (Ann) Schueler of Roseville, CA and Donald (Alaice) Schueler of Napa, CA; granddaughters: Mikki Purdy Del Perdang of Riverside, CA, Jolene Purdy Brandt of Long Beach, CA and Christina Kiser of Reno, NV; 2 great granddaughters; and many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 57 years, Margaret (Schueler) Purdy, daughter, Margaret Reel, granddaughter, Malaina Kiser, brothers, Robert, Ray, and Donald Purdy, sister-in-law, Laurel Purdy, and his parents. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, December 30, at 12 Noon, at Sierra View Mortuary. A Celebration of Life will follow at Yuba Buffet. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Carl's name to the Alzheimer's Association. Sierra View Mortuary is assisting the family with the arrangements.
