Obituary of George Deveraux
Born on the Fourth of July, 1936, George Deveraux Sr. lived the American Dream - from running the hills of Wyoming with his brothers and proudly serving his country in the Air Force to riding his Harleys to the pavement's end and building a large and loving family and business, George had it all. George Deveraux Sr. passed away on December 7, 2015 surrounded by family and loved ones in Yuba City, CA at the age of 79. George is predeceased by his wife of fifty years, Irene Eckerdt Deveraux and daughter Georgette Deveraux Gimblin as well as sisters Pearl Graham and Estella Graham and brothers Herbert Deveraux Jr. and Joseph D. Deveraux. George is survived by his life partner Jeanette Warner of Yuba City, CA who brought great love and comfort to George in the final years of his life. George is lovingly remembered by his children Jackie Bumpus of Yuba City and son and daughter-in-law George and Karin Deveraux of Marysville as well as his surviving brothers Jack, Jim, Harry of Wyoming and Ray Deveraux of Colorado. George will live on through his grandchildren Nichole Bumpus Bloch, Alexander Bumpus, Steve Gimblin, Casey Gimblin, Cameron Bumpus, Lyndsey Deveraux and Garrett Deveraux. George was also lucky enough to know and be loved by his great grandchildren Zoe Hearn, Ava Bumpus, Jayden Gimblin, Ella Gimblin, Mia Bumpus, Harper Gimblin, Liv Bumpus, Noa Bloch, Bella Gimblin, Reed Gimblin and Ali Bumpus. George was born in Manderson, Wyoming and graduated from Manderson High School in 1954 and would later earn an associate degree in administrative justice from Yuba College. George served in the United States Air Force from 1955 to 1963. George owned and operated George's Mobil in Linda, CA for over 40 years and would later work alongside his son George Jr. at Superior Radiator Supply. George served his civic duty as a board member for the Linda County Water District, a Yuba County Supervisor and Yuba County Water Agency Director from 1979 to 1991. George was also a Linda volunteer fire fighter and Olivehurst-Linda little league coach. George found great joy in spending time with his family. He took his children and grandchildren water skiing and snow skiing and loved to take road trips to almost anywhere but especially to Fort Bragg or back home to Wyoming. George loved the open road. He loved to drive his truck or Irene's brand new Lincoln Towncar. He loved to crack the throttle on his Harley and go all day. He loved to tow his travel trailer and camp. George understood that life was about the love of the ride. George ultimately succumbed to lung cancer after battling the disease for three years. A Memorial service will be held at Sierra View Chapel, 4900 Olive Avenue, Olivehurst, CA on Tuesday, December 15th at 2:00pm with George's lifelong friend Bob Eneix officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Mother Hubbard's Cupboard at St. Andrew Presbyterian Church, 1390 Franklin Road, Yuba City, CA 95993 or SOYOUCAN, 220 Gross Avenue, Marysville, CA 95901.
