Obituary of Hazel Rita Youngblood (Davis)

Hazel Rita Youngblood Our beloved Hazel Rita Youngblood passed away peacefully on Saturday morning, October 10, 2015. She will be missed by all who shared the joy of her presence; always happy and only wanting others to be happy too. She lived her last ten years at the Courtyard where she was loved by all and returned that love. Hazel's husband of 56 years, Tom Youngblood, preceded her in death, as did her son, Greg, and her brothers, Guy Crandall and Richard Crandall and sisters, Vera McInnis, Gladys Payne Alton and Fern Kelley. She is survived by her daughter, Tommie Sue Dekellis and her husband, Tim Kelleher, of Yuba City, her daughter Marilyn Sensney and her husband, Em, of Fresno, her grandchildren, Krista Youngblood of Hollywood, California, Zachary Dekellis of Chico, California, Lindsay Davis of Roseville, California, Grant Galloway of Monterey, California, Shelby Rider of Roseville, California and Kent Galloway of Long Beach, California, her nephew, Dick Kelly of Winston-Salem, North Carolina, and five great grandchildren. Hazel Davis was born in Roswell, New Mexico September 17, 1923. She was raised on a sheep ranch with her Mom, Dad and five siblings in the New Mexico high desert. She was working at the Roswell, New Mexico Air Force base when she met Tom Youngblood, fell in love and they were married in Albuquerque, New Mexico, in 1946. Hazel and Tom then lived in 17 states while Tom worked on an oil surveying crew. In 1960 they arrived in Yuba City, where they decided to put down their roots and lived for the rest of their lives. Tom became the owner of the Tom Youngblood Powder Company in Browns Valley, while Hazel was the homemaker, raising their three children. They were very involved in their church and were members of both the North Side Baptist Church and the Cooper Avenue Baptist Church. Hazel also worked summers as a secretary for the Tomato Canning Inspection Service and served many years on the local election board. Hazel volunteered more than 5,500 hours for the Fremont Hospital Auxiliary, working at the Surgery Hostess desk and the gift shop. Hazel loved games and puzzles and at the age of 92 could still play a great game of dominoes. A memorial service will be held for Hazel on Thursday, October 15, 2015 at the Cooper Avenue Baptist Church, beginning at 11:30 a.m., to be led by Pastor David Turner. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Cooper Avenue Baptist Church, 804 Cooper Avenue, Yuba City, CA 95991.
