Obituary of Howard Daniel Metcalf

Howard Daniel Metcalf, age 89, of Marysville, passed away peacefully, on March 22, 2015. He was born on January 16, 1926, in Cartersville, Oklahoma to Frank and Bonnie Metcalf. Howard came to California in 1936 and attended school in Chowchilla. He and his family moved to Wheatland in 1947, and Howard lived in Yuba County for most of the following 70 years. He married Eunice Dowing in 1949, and they had two sons that were stillborn. He had no other children. Howard married his second wife, Dorothy in 2000, and she passed away in 2011. Howard served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and was a lifetime member of the VFW Post of Olivehurst. He worked as a welder for Cal Gas Co. for over 20 years. Howard enjoyed camping and fishing. After his retirement, he spent many hours along the rivers, streams, and lakes in our area. He also enjoyed woodworking and oil painting. Howard loved his family and loved family get-togethers. In 1985, he arranged and hosted a family reunion in Marysville Riverfront Park which was attended by over one hundred relatives form all over the United States. Mr. Metcalf is survived by his brothers: Francis Metcalf of Marysville and Eugene Metcalf of Wheatland; as well as many nieces and nephews. He will be greatly missed by all. Friends and family are invited to visit on Thursday, April 2, from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. at Sierra View Mortuary. A chapel service will be held at the mortuary on Thursday at 1 p.m. Committal will be private at Sierra View Memorial Park. Sierra View Mortuary is assisting the family with the arrangements.
