Obituary of Verna Lee Smith (Wolfenbarger)

Verna Lee Wolfenbarger Smith Verna Lee Smith died peacefully February 10, 2015, at the age of 86, in Carmichael, California. She was born June 2, 1928, to Herman Goldie and Sylvia Cecile Wolfenbarger in Buhl, Idaho. She is survived by her sister, Goldie Iva Ramos and preceded in death by her sister, Lila May Marston, and brothers, Ernest Loy Wolfenbarger and William Don Wolfenbarger. On January 25, 1948, she married James Allen Smith and they had 5 children, George Allen Smith (deceased), Barbara Ann Brown, James Edward Allenbaugh, Kathleen Louise Gentry and Richard Kevin Smith. She has 10 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren. Verna was active in the 4-H club and enjoyed quilting, gardening, and reading. She was an accomplished seamstress and was incredibly resourceful and creative. Although she had no formal musical training, she loved to sing, yodel and play the accordion and harmonica. Verna was very loving, generous, kind-hearted and possessed a child-like innocence that made those she met feel special. We will greatly miss her loving kindness and natural sense of fun and silliness. She left behind a rich legacy of sharing the good and assuming the best of all whom she knew and loved. Services for Verna will be held Friday, February 20, 2015, at 1:30 p.m. at the Sierra View Mortuary, 4900 Olive Ave., Olivehurst, CA 95961, with committal to follow at Sierra View Memorial Park.
