Obituary of Eugene Harris "Gene" Humphrey

Eugene Harris Humphrey, age 93, of Wheatland, passed away peacefully at home on January 6, 2015. He was born on July 10, 1921, in Quincy, Illinois to Elmer and Elsa Humphrey. Eugene served in the Marine Corps during World War II, and was one of the last surviving Flying Sergeants. After his service, he worked as a Technical Writer, a Psychiatric Technician, State Police Guard, Rural Postal Carrier, and, after retiring, was a rancher. He also owned several airplanes over the years. Mr. Humphrey is survived by his sons: Duke (Lovena) Humphrey of Wheatland and Richard (Robin) Humphrey of Somerset; daughter: Sharon Ellis of Auburn; step daughter: Jeanne (Paul) Whiting of Folsom; step son: John (Mona) Lynn of Greendale, Wisconsin; 15 grandchildren; and numerous great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, 8 siblings, his son, David Humphrey, first wife Sada Humphrey, and his second wife, Ola Humphrey. Services will be private. Eugene will be laid to rest at Sacramento Valley National Cemetery in Dixon. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Gene's honor to the American Cancer Society. Sierra View Mortuary is assisting the family with the arrangements.
