Obituary of Floyd Dale Doyel

Floyd Dale Doyel, age 90, loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, passed peacefully on January 5, 2015. He was born on July 22, 1924, in Santee, California, the second of eight children, to Joseph Floyd Doyel and Jessie Pearl Doyel. Dale was a graduate of Porterville High School, and served in the Navy during World War II. After the war, he worked briefly at Sheila Motor Company, then went into partnership as a joint owner/operator of a service station in Porterville. He began working for Caltrans in 1961, and retired as a shop foreman with Caltrans in District 3 in Marysville after many successful years of service. Dale was active for many years in the Southern Baptist Church. He served as a deacon in the church on several occasions, and helped support a missionary church, including the building of a new church, in Truckee, California. He married Lota Ann Conley of Porterville after his graduation from Porterville High School, and she followed him to San Diego where he was stationed in the Navy. After his release, they returned to Porterville. Dale and Lota had four children while they lived in Porterville - Patricia, Daleen, Bradley and Susie. They build a new home on Beverly Drive, and enjoyed many years together with large extended families on both the Doyel and Conley side. In 1961 Dale successfully passed state examinations and began work at Caltrans, assigned to the substation in Truckee, California. He would continue working there until 1966, when he passed examinations for a supervisory position and was assigned to the District 3 Shop in Marysville. He would work there until his retirement at the age of 62. In 1969 he lost his wife, Lota Ann, to cancer. He would subsequently meet and marry Helen Bramer of Marysville on March 31, 1973. Dale and Helen lived until his death in the Bramer family home in Marysville. They spent many happy years in retirement, travelling throughout the United States and Canada, and visiting family and friends. Dale was much loved within the extended Bramer family. Dale is survived not only by his loving wife of 41 years, Helen Doyel, but two brothers - Les and Johnny of Porterville, California - and one sister, Lois of Fountain Hills, Arizona. He is predeceased by one daughter - Patricia Ann Sorani. He is also survived by one son and two daughters - Brad Doyel of Portland, Oregon; Daleen Chapman of Yuba City, California; and Sue Wilson of Republic, Missouri. Surviving him are a total of 10 grandchildren - Gina Landis of Redding, California; Lisa Sorani of Alameda, California; Mia Sorani, also of Redding, California; Greg Chapman of Sacramento, California; Kim Webb of Yuba City, California; Amy Nicholson of San Diego, California; Sean Doyel and Erin Doyel of Tacoma, Washington; Blanton of Clever, Missouri; Shannon Wilson of Inola, Oklahoma; and Pam Gianapulos of Brookline, Missouri. He is also survived by 18 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his wife, Helen's brother, Ray Bramer, of San Jose, California; her nephew, Richard Bramer, of Marysville; and her niece, Kathy Colon, also of Marysville, California. Sierra View Mortuary is assisting with a Graveside Service. That will be followed by a Memorial Service on Saturday, January 17, at 1 p.m. at Cooper Avenue Baptist Church, 804 Cooper Ave., in Yuba City.
