Obituary of David John Edward West

June 11, 1938 - October 3, 2014 David John Edward West, 76, left this world to be with the Lord, Friday, October 3, 2014. Born June 11, 1938 in Phoenix, Arizona, David was a Yuba-Sutter resident for over 70 years. The son of James Otto West (biological) and Evangeline Bee Walden and Manual Comarsh (step-father), David was part of a self-titled group called the Linda Boys with his childhood pals Danny Ray Parsley, Virgil Lansdon, Donald Mitchell, and his future brother-in-law Jesse (Jaime) Redman. Growing up across the street from his closest friend, Jesse, David came into contact with Jesse's bratty younger sister Glenda. Growing up together, David was constantly annoyed by this girl who took great delight in getting on her brothers nerves, as well as those of his friends. David had no use at all for this girl until the young lady reached eighth grade, when in David's words and heart, the little pest became the most important person in his world. The two childhood combatants would remain together the rest of their lives. Married in February 1960, David and Glenda raised two children in a home filled with love. David, a 1956 graduate of Marysville High School, was a huge sports fan, cheering on his beloved San Francisco Giants, San Francisco 49ers, and Sacramento Kings. He loved the game of golf, and played the game passionately until his eyesight gave out, but it was youth sports where David's sports passion really shined. He was a part of Olivehurst-Linda Little League from its inception in the 1950's, starting as just a teenager, and he handled many roles with the league through more than 35 years, serving as coach, umpire, and board member. Later David joined the District 2 Little League staff as a representative, and helped organize umpire clinics, and run tournaments for the district. When his own children reached high school age, David turned his attention to the newly built Lindhurst High School. Through the years David served on the boosters club, and also coached girl's basketball and softball, and subbed often at the home of the Blazers. Next to his marriage and the birth of his children, David considered the day he accepted Jesus Christ into his life as the most important day in his life. He was a long-time member of Feather River Baptist Church, and would offer his testimony to all who needed comforting. In the summer of 1984, David became one of the first kidney transplant patients on the West Coast, allowing him to lead a mostly healthy life for nearly 20 years. After David's successful first transplant, he earned his Bachelor's Degree in Social Science from Chico State in 1988. David then entered the teaching profession and spent the next 15 years helping students. David is survived by his brother, William Comarsh (Brenda) and sister, Yvonne Matthews, both of Marysville; two children, Liz Haag (Ron) of Marysville, and David West (Linda) of Plumas Lake; four grandchildren, Michelle Overbeck of Marysville, and Chris Overbeck (Tammy) of Marysville, Anna West of Arcata, California, and Nolan West, of Portsmouth, Ohio, and two great-grandchildren, David and Brandon Overbeck of Marysville. In lieu of flowers, donations are requested in the name of David West to the American Kidney Fund. Donate online at kidneyfund. Services will be Thursday October 9, 2014 at 11:00 am at Sierra View Mortuary, 4900 Olive Ave., Olivehurst.
