Obituary of Letha Bryant (Branom)

Letha Branom the sixth child and first daughter of Herman Roy Branom, Sr. and Martha Elizabeth Burks Branom was born August 26, 1915. She departed this life August 16, 2014. She accepted Christ at an early age and united with The Gospel Missionary Baptist Church in Bristow, OK. She was a dedicated member and faithful supporter of Assembly of God in Olivehurst, CA for 6 years. She received her early education in Bristow, OK. On February 2, 1934, she was united in marriage to Mr. Germany Kilpatrick. Their marriage produced Onetta (Percy, Sr.) Johnson of Matteson, IL; Erma Jean (Hollis) Dawson of Lynwood, CA; Mary Helen (Charles, Jr.) Walker of Marysville, CA; Donald Otis (died October 25, 2010); Elnora Kilpatrick of Banning, CA; Diane (George) Fears (died January 5, 2011); Elizabeth Marie (Eddie) Vann (died December 24, 2003); and Zondra (Homer Joseph) Martin of Oakland, CA. Their marriage was dissolved in Los Angeles, CA October 29, 1958. On May 2, 1959, she wed Mr. Eugene Valencia Bryant and to this union Lithia Valencia of Sylmar, CA was born. This marriage ended in divorce on July 19, 1972. Letha worked primarily in the domestic industry where she marketed her skills, managed her finances, and maintained employment. Additionally she worked in the clothing industry and various labor occupations. She often used her sewing, cooking and millenary skills to make extra money. In addition, she earned a state of California license to provide child care, while living in San Jose, CA. After retiring, Letha enjoyed traveling and ventured out on many car trips, cruises, and train rides across the state of California and the country. During retirement, she continued to work as a volunteer; wherever and whenever she was needed: at churches; rest, rehabilitation, and retirement homes; and schools. Hobbies and past times were visiting with friends, reading and studying the Bible, sewing, quilting, and fishing. Letha was a master quilter, a wonderful cook, and a professional seamstress. She enjoyed making most of her own clothing and she hand quilted a quilt for each of her 27 grandchildren. She loved to bake cakes and pies. Apple pie was her favorite later in life. She leaves to celebrate her life and cherish her memory daughters Onetta (Percy, Sr.) Johnson, Erma Jean Dawson, Mary Helen Walker, Elnora Kilpatrick, Zondra (Homer) Martin, and Lithia Bryant; a sister, Queen Esther Moore; 27 grand children, numerous great-grand children, and many great great-grand children; numerous nieces and nephews; a special friend and caretaker, Tonya Lyle and her family; and, a host of family and friends. Friends are invited to visit on Friday, August 29, from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. at Sierra View Mortuary. A funeral service will be held on Friday at 11 a.m. at the mortuary with committal to follow at Sierra View Memorial Park.
