Obituary of Joseph George Banas
Joseph George Banas, 99, passed away June 22, 2014 in Yuba City, CA. He was born in South Chicago, IL, March 31, 1915. He lived in the Cook County, IL area for 43 years, then spent 12 years in San Antonio, TX, before settling as a 30 year resident in Yuba City, CA. A World War II Veteran, in the U.S. Army as a Sergeant in the 9222nd Technical Service Unit serving as a Surgical Technician in the Asiatic Pacific Theater. Joseph met the love of his life Eva Belle Williams in Colorado at a USO dance and they married Sept. 6, 1945. They were blessed with two daughters, two grandsons and three great grandsons. He has been a member of the First United Methodist Church for over 45 years. He is a lifetime member of both the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2563 and American Legion Post 807. He loved his family and friends, getting together and corresponding with his loved ones, walking and playing with his dog, "Chi Chi", playing his guitar and harmonica. Travel was also a love, he saw all 50 states and visited many countries. Joseph is survived by two daughters: Marsha (Jim) Conroy of Shererville, Ind., and Pamela Thornton of Yuba City, CA; grandson Jason (Tammy) Thornton of Fallon, NV; great-grandsons: Jorren Thornton of Durham, NC, Brian Stewart of Woodland, CA, and Jonathan Stewart of Yuba City, CA. He was predeceased by his wife, Eva Belle Banas; his parents, Joseph P. Banas and Theresa Banas; his siblings: Theresa Murzyn, Helen Janik, Ann Kielman, John Banas, Andrew Banas and Sophie Janik; and his grandson, Aaron P. Thornton. Memorial service will be held Wed., July 2, 2014 at 1:00 p.m. at the First Unitted Methodist Church, Yuba City, CA.
