Margarita G. Salgado With great sorrow, we announce the passing of Maggie Salgado on April 6, 2014, in Marysville, CA. Maggie was born Margarita Gillespie on August 4, 1923, in Tampico, Mexico, daughter of Charles Harvey Gillespie and Flavia Cordero. She married Alfonso L. Salgado on May 24, 1943. Soon after moved to Calexico, CA where together they started their family and where four of their seven children were born. Later moved to Sanger, CA in 1947 and had three more children. In 1959, they decided to move to the Wheatland area in order to help Maggie's mother, Flavia and where they found a wonderful community of friends. Maggie managed the kitchen for Noreen Ranch for over 30 years until her retirement in 1989. Maggie was a devout Catholic and was dedicated to her family. Maggie and Alfonso's home was always open to family and friends - everyone was welcome. Their family home served as the gathering place for many family and friends. She was known for her hospitality, strong values, kindness and humor. Maggie loved music and had a beautiful voice, she was creative and had an eye for color, she loved to make people laugh, was a great bargain shopper, she was an avid gardener and a great cook. The greatest gift she gave was her unconditional love to everyone. Maggie was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Alfosno and one of her twin sons, Ernie. She is survived by six of her children: Al Salgado (Sheryl) of Woodland, Phoebe (Gerry) Ballard of Lincoln, Carlos Salgado of Wheatland, Margaret (Tom) Jopson of Rio Oso, Norma (Robert) Ferguson of Marysville, Patricia (Lane) Jackson of Marysville, daughter-in-law, Kathleen Salgado, her fourteen grandchildren, 29 great- grandchildren and 1 great great- grandchild and one on the way; her sisters, Paula Cota of Guaymas, Mexico, Mary Ann (Carlos) Pereyra of Woodland, Paulina Jimenez of Sacramento, sister-in-law, Alice Gillespie of West Sacramento, and many loving nieces and nephews. A rosary is scheduled for Sunday, April 13, at 6 pm at Sierra View Mortuary in Olivehurst, CA. The Funeral Mass is scheduled for Monday, April 14, at 11:00 am at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 223 8th Street, Marysville, CA. Interment will be at Sierra View Memorial Park 4900 Olive Ave, Olivehurst, followed by a Celebration of Life at St Joseph's Church hall. Sierra View Mortuary is assisting the family with the arrangements.
