Obituary of Martha Helen "GGMa" Inglis
Martha Helen Inglis died March 01, 2014 shortly after turning 94. She was born Feb. 19, 1920 in Westover, Texas to George Elbert Thommarson and Penelope Armoline Sanderson Thommarson. When she was 5, the family moved to Olton, Texas "up on the plains of West Texas."She remembered running in the tall prairie grass that had never been "turned under" by any plow. She married William (Bill) Inglis on May 20, 1938. Their home was in Amarillo, TX. Until 1952 when they moved to Napa, CA. in 1972, they retired to a 10 acre farm in Marysville, CA. they had a race car and spent most weekends at the Vacaville Drag Strip where they both were drivers of the station wagon named "Grandpa's Folley" Martha Loved racing in the Powder Puff drags. They became "snowbirds" traveling to Arizona and Hemet, CA. where Martha began crafting. Bill passed away 31/2 months after they celebrated their 50th anniversary. Martha began the next phase of her busy life when she moved to Grants Pass in 1990 where her favorite saying was "I'm a work in progress, I'm just beginning." She Volunteered at the Josephine County Historical Society. She was a teacher's helper in Mrs. Eames first grade class at riverside Elementary school for three years. She devoted time to Calvary crossroads church where she fondly remembered going on her first "retreat". She earned her "black belt" in crafts: ceramics, padded baskets, tole paints, wooden dolls, quilts, etc. her favorite craft was stitching Christmas stockings adorned with sequins and beads. She became known as the "stocking Queen" because she created over 100 of them. She moved one more time. Feb. 02, 2001, she became the first resident of Spring Village Assisted Living facility. She was an active member of the Resident's council and served as their first president. She loved games: Bingo, Bunco, Train, RumiKub, and Kings Corners with family & friends. GGMa will be buried beside bill at Sierra View Memorial Park in Olivehurst CA. she was preceded by her husband, mother, father, sisters Alice and Thelma, brothers R.D. and Andy, granddaughters Candee and Debbie LeVan. She is survived by sister Opal, brother Joseph and all of her children- son Bill Jr. (Carol) Inglis of Newbury park, CA; Daughters Beth (Norm) Farlow and Pat (Russ) LeVan of Grants Pass; grandchildren- terri LeVan, Kasey Kirkpatrick, Kimbra Philbrook, Lance Inglis. Great-grandchildren- Jennifer Kirkpatrick, Jenny Morocco, Jessi Smith, Joanne Segura, Alex Gatewood, troy Philbrook, Brett Philbrook, Makenna Inglis. Great-great-grandchildren-Alex Segura, Bella Segura, Alaina Mulkey, Trevone Gatewood, Taleah Williamson.
