Obituary of Irene Garcia

Irene Garcia, 88, passed peacefully at her Marysville home on October 10. She was preceded in death by Albert, her husband of 65 years. She is survived by three daughters, Marion, Kathie and Lynda (James); five grandchildren, Will (Lisa), Matt (Jennifer), Andy (Gayle), Tim and Katie (Cameron); seven great grandchildren, Anna, Ava, Drew, Brooklyn, Abbi, Gracie and Amelia; step-grandson Eric (Julie) and their children Jenny and Jace. Soon after moving to Marysville in 1961, Irene joined Epsilon Sigma Alpha, where she made life-long friends. She was secretary at Faith Lutheran Church. Irene was a Pink Lady at Rideout Hospital for 30 years and supported the Marysville Little League and the Yuba-Sutter Soccer League. She belonged to a card club, a movie group and a Sacramento theatergoers group. She worked at Montgomery Ward catalog department and many remember her from there. Irene was a devoted member of the Marysville Presbyterian church for 30 years and was president of the 2013 Presbyterian Church Women's Group, Deborah Circle. Irene never met a stranger and was a friend to all. Born in Russia in 1924, she came to the U.S. in 1947 with her military husband, Al and their daughter Marion, and became a naturalized citizen. The family moved frequently, living in Japan and Germany, but always called California home. They moved to Marysville after Al retired from the U.S. Army. Irene will be deeply missed. She was well loved by her family and friends. Her beautiful smile and warm heart touched many lives. Funeral services will be held at the Marysville Presbyterian Church on Wednesday, October 16 at 11:00 am. Interment will be at Sierra View Cemetery, where she will be laid to rest next to her husband. A reception will follow at the church.
