Obituary of Darrell Ray "Ray" Baker
Darrell "Ray" Baker of Marysville died April 20, 2013 at RIdeout Memorial Hospital, Surrounded by his Loving Family . Ray was born on June 22, 1940 in Aberdeen, South Dakota, to Dale Ray and Velma Scott Baker. He was a Yuba-Sutter resident since 1963 and was a retired general building contractor for 35 years. In addition, he served his country honorably in the U.S. Air force form 1958 to 1963. He was a devoted member of the Kiwanis Club of Marysville for 25 years, serving as president and several years as chairman of the youth fishing derby. As a Kiwanian, he was instrumental in the construction and completion of the Linda Little League Park, in Linda, CA. Ray was also a member of the local Harley- Davidson Club. He spent many hours as a volunteer for Fremont-Rideout Hospice and the Rideourt Emergency Department, for which he enjoyed dearly. Ray also enjoyed spending many hours at the Fountains Skilled Nursing Facility, Bringing joy and friendship to the patients and employees. His most proud accomplishments were the construction of the main gate and entrance to the Marysville City Cemetery and the construction of the Knights of Columbus Retirement Center in Marysville. Ray loved traveling every year to Hawaii with his wife Stacy, riding his Harley, going to Marysville Raceway Park on Saturday, tending to his flowers, watching NFL Redzone and western movies and going to the local casinos. Ray is survived by his wife of 36 years, Stacy, by sons, Brian of Yuba City, Christopher and Anthony of Marysville, daughter, Karrie of Live Oak, three grandsons Josh, Brandon and Allen and two granddaughters, Natalie and Meghan. He is also survived by his sisters, Barbara McCord of Alaska and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. Visitation will start at 5:00 pm at Sierra View Memorial Chapel followed by a Trisagion service at 7:00 pm, on Thursday, April 26th, at 10am, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Marysville followed by his committal at Sierra View Memorial Park. Father Dino Pappademos from St. Katherines Greek Orthodox Church, in Elk Grove, CA will officiate the services. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the MAry Aaron Museum, 704 D Street, Marysville. CA 95901 or to Fremont-Rideout Foundation, 989 Plumas Street, Yuba City, CA 9599. The family would like to thank Dr. Nick Tran and the Rideout Emergency and CVICU departments for all the care and excellent service they provided to Ray. We would also like to thank the Kiwanis Club of MArysville for the support the are providing.
