He was my father and he was my hero when I was young, but life as his son grew difficult and we grew apart and my parents separated. He moved away to California and we did not see him again. About a year before he passed we spoke on the phone for hours one late evening. We made peace and said many things that we needed to say. The call meant much to both of us.
Dad fell short in many ways as a father and I in turn failed my own two children in many ways, but all should know that he was one of the bravest and finest soldiers the United States ever held within her ranks.
Born in Canada, he realized his dream to become an American Citizen and he was a loyal patriot to our great nation until the end. In that sense I only hope that I can measure up to his legacy
