Muriel (Mert) Irene Jones 79, of Sacramento, California, passed away on March 1, 2011 peacefully at her sons residence in Yuba City, California, surrounded by family and friends. Born March 7, 1931 in Yuba City, California, she was a Yuba Sutter residence for several years before moving to Sacramento. Survivors include a sister Margaret Keeney of Olivehurst, California, two sons, Charles (Debbie) of Yuba City,California, Dennis (Kathy) of Oroville, California, a sister Debbie Jones of Chico, California. Seven Grandchildren, three great- grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Mert was a homemaker much of her life. She volunteered for the Sacramento Probation Department, and at several Sacramento Schools. She was a member of VFW Post 4095 ladies auxiliary. Mert had a passion for young people, and wanted to help all of them. She is preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Willis Jones, father, Charles Voorhees, mother, Lois, sisters, Ella Mae Summers, Phyllis Trible, brother, Junior Voorhees. An open house gathering for family and friends will be held Saturday, March 5, 2011 at 1:00 p.m. at her sons home in Yuba City. Burial arrangements will be at a later date.
