Obituary of Albert Daniel Garcia

Albert D. Garcia Passed away peacefully on April 23, 2010. He was 92. Albert was born on March 15, 1918 in Santa Barbara, CA to Ramona and Matthew Garcia. He was orphaned by age 13, when he was taken in by his loving foster parents, Claudia and Ferdinand Morrelli. He resided with them until he joined the U.S. Army in 1940. During his twenty-year military career he served in both World War II and the Korean War and was awarded a bronze star and a meritorious unit commendation. He met and married Irene Karlak in Germany at the end of World War II. After retiring from the Army at the Presidio of San Francisco, he joined the Federal Service Department of Labor which brought him and his family to Marysville in 1961. He entered permanent retirement in 1973. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW), The American Foreign Legion, The 70th Infantry Division Association of WWII, Sons in Retirement (SIRS), the Moose Lodge, and the First Presbyterian Church of Marysville, and was a long-time volunteer at the Christian Assistance Network. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Irene, three daughters: Marion Phalan of Ventura, CA, Kathie Roberts (Walter Gibson) of Reno, NV, and Lynda Bradbury (James Van Artsdalen) of Marysville; five grandchildren: Will Kenefick (Lisa) of Camarillo, CA; Matt Kenefick (Jennifer) of San Francisco; Andy Bradbury (Gayle) of Marysville; Tim Bradbury (Alicia) of Yuba City; and Katie Oliver (Ethan) of Marysville, plus six great-grandchildren and his faithful dog Rocky. He was loved and will be greatly missed by all who knew him. Funeral services will be at 10am on Thursday, April 29, 2010 at the First Presbyterian Church of Marysville, (corner of Sampson St. and Rideout Way, Marysville). Burial with full military honors will be at Sierra View Memorial Park. Reception to follow at the First Presbyterian Church of Marysville.
