Retired Chief Master Sergeant Robert James Eliason of Olivehurst passed away at his home October 24, 2009. Robert was born June 30, 1931, in Coquille, OR. Enlisting in the United States Air Force at the age of 17, he spent over 30 years serving his Country. He was a Vietnam Veteran and was awarded the Bronze Star. Among his numerous assignments, he was the non-commissioned officer in charge of finance at Clark AFB in the Philippines and was responsible for pay and financial records for all returning Vietnam Prisoners of War. After retiring from the USAF he worked an additional 12 years for Sierra Central Credit Union as an accountant. Robert was preceded in death just a short 38 days before his own passing by his loving and supportive wife of 56 years, Joan Eliason. Robert is survived by 3 sons; Dale, Mark and Glenn Eliason of Yuba City and by a daughter, Sharon Hunley of Milwaukee, WI. He is also survived by six grandchildren; Jessica, Tiffany and Nathan Eliason of Yuba City, Steven Eliason of Fort Polk, LA and John & Cecely Newett of Fredericksburg, VA,; and one great-granddaughter, Alana, of Fredericksburg. Robert was the second-oldest of 6 children, and is survived by 2 sisters; Judy Craig of Folsom, CA and Pat Smith of Elk Grove, CA. At the request of the family, services will be private. Arrangements are under the direction of Sierra View Mortuary in Olivehurst, CA.
