Hildegard passed away peacefully on January 30, 2012. Hilda, or "Oma", as her grandchildren called her, was born on April 16, 1924 to Friedrich and Emilie Klinger in Nuremberg, Germany. She went to school and worked in Nuremberg until 1946. She met and married her "soul mate" George E. Childers, Sr. in Nuremberg. George had a career in the Army and brought Hilda to the United States in 1950. She traveled around the world from Army base to Army base as a wife and mother to their six children. In 1963, after retiring from the Army, he brought Hilda and their family to his childhood hometown in Marysville, California. She earned her citizenship shortly after coming to America. In the early 1970's, Hilda went back to school and eventually worked as medical bookkeeper at Yuba City Convalescent Hospital for over 15 years. George Sr. passed away in 1977. Hilda continued working and raising her family in their Marysville home. Throughout it all, she dedicated her life to her family, children and grandchildren. She was the most selfless person we've ever known. She is survived by her 6 children, Charles Childers, Helga Childers (Mike), Gary Childers (Kathy), Heidi Thomason (Larry), Angel Johnson and George E. Childers, Jr.; her 8 grandchildren, Jason Lynch, Marcus Lynch, Andrew Childers, Christopher Matthews, Shannon Culbertson, Nathanael Dewey, Lee Thomason and Troy Thomason; and 12 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, George Childers Sr., her parents Friedrich and Emilie Klinger and her brother, Heinz Klinger. Family and close friends are invited to attend a graveside service that will be held at Sierra View Memorial Park in Olivehurst, California on Saturday, February 4th, 2012 at 1:00 p.m. Pastor Hayes Noble of St. Andrew Presbyterian Church in Yuba City, California will be officiating. Jon Fullerton of Sierra View Mortuary is the funeral director in charge of arrangements.
