Obituary of Edith Corinne Arnold

Edith Corinne Arnold passed away peacefully at home in Wheatland, California on Sunday, February 6, at age 101. Born to Nellie Roxana (Ingram) and Everett Sherman Grimes in Panama, Oklahoma on December 4, 1909, she married Loyal Vincent Arnold in 1927 in Spiro, Oklahoma. They moved to southern California in 1928 and lived in Richmond, Rio Oso, Forbestown and southern Oregon before settling in Wheatland. She and Loyal operated the family-owned Arnold Cash Grocery and adjacent restaurant in Wheatland. They also owned and operated the Forbestown Grocery for 10 years where Edith also operated the Butte County Branch Library. She was employed at Dryden's Drugs in Marysville after moving to Wheatland. Edith was a founding member of the Challenge Community Church and a long-time deaconess, women's group member and pianist and organist at Wheatland First Christian Church. She also belonged to Wednesday Club. Edith enjoyed playing the piano and organ, reading, sewing, gardening, cooking and entertaining family. She is survived by daughters Phyllis (Forrest) Jackson of Modesto, Janice Yergenson (Gene Hutchens) of Corning, and Joyce (Jerry) Kersey of Wheatland. Edith is also survived by 11 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren and 17 great- great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband Loyal, son Ronald and one grandson. Visitation will be Saturday, February 12, from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Sierra View Mortuary Chapel, with funeral services immediately following. Burial will be at Sierra View Memorial Park. Mark S. Eliason is the funeral counselor in charge of arrangements.
