Esther Acosta, age 85, died peacefully at the Marysville Care Center on May 13, 2011. She was born on August 27, 1925 in Los Angeles, California. Esther lived in the Yuba/Sutter area for 37 years. She worked as a cafeteria worker for Lindhurst High School for 8 years. A zealous member of the Jehovah Witnesses of Marysville South Kingdom Hall, she loved preaching door to door and conducting Bible studies. Esther enjoyed camping, taking videos, crocheting Afghans, gardening and cooking Mexican food. In fact, she started a restaurant in Taos, New Mexico called "The Burrito Wagon." Esther is survived by her 2 daughters, Marie Cerezo of Baldwin Park, California and Yvonne Rafferty of Anchorage, Alaska; a brother, Adolfo "Fito" Vargas, Jr. of Fullerton, California and a sister, Patricia Garcia of Medford, Oregon. She is also survived by 3 grandchildren, Tamara Norris, Ritchie Duron and Deidre Duron-Mingus; and 3 great grandchildren; Anthony and Dylan Mingus and Averie Duron. Esther was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Alfred Acosta and by her daughter, Bonnie Davidson. Visitation will be on Friday, May 20, 2011 from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Sierra View Mortuary in Olivehurst with funeral services at 2:00 p.m. Elder Bill Bernard of the Jehovah Witnesses will be officiating. Burial will follow at Sierra View Memorial Park. Jon Fullerton is the funeral director in charge of arrangements.
