Obituary of Francis Lee Banta
Francis "Sonny" Lee Banta, aged 84, passed away on December 21, 2024, in Plumas Lake, California. Born on July 8, 1940, Sonny was a lifelong resident of the area, having moved to Olivehurst, California with his family at the age of 12.
Sonny was known for his loving, hard-working nature. He married his high school sweetheart, Patricia Espinoza, on February 27, 1960. Together, they raised two sons, Michael and Ricky, and built a life filled with love and dedication. Sonny was an exceptional provider, always ensuring his family had everything they needed.
Professionally, Sonny began his career at Harper's Furniture at the age of 12 and dedicated 25 years to the company. He later joined MFP Lumber Mill as a Safety Coordinator and Chief of the Mill's fire department. Sonny also served as a volunteer fireman for OPUD and coached Little League. He retired in 2012 from Apex Lumber Mill.
In his leisure, Sonny was an accomplished woodworker and a passionate gardener. He built two homes for his family and various woodworking projects that brought joy to many, especially his wife, Pat. His meticulous yard was a testament to his love for gardening.
Sonny is survived by his wife of 64 years, Patricia Banta; sons, Mike and Ricky Banta; five grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; sister, Lavena Harper; and brother, Jack Banta. He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Mable Banta.
