Carl Bailey, Jr.

Obituary of Carl Bailey, Jr.

Please share a memory of Carl to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Carl Bailey Jr. was born in Iowa City, Iowa, on August 1, 1936, to Carl and Pansy Bailey. Carl passed away at his step-daughter’s home in Yuba City, California, on October 24, 2024, at the age of 88.

Carl was predeceased by his parents, Carl and Pansy Bailey, brother Richard, sister Joyce, and son Scott Bailey.

Carl is survived by his wife, Lavada Bailey; his children: Rose Marie Blackburn, Carl Eugene Bailey, Danette Lintvedt, Dawn Bailey, and Susan Bailey;  stepchildren: Dennis Sleighter, Wanda Edmonds, Karren Brehms Wood, 17 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren and one great, great grandchild.

Carl married Rose Grossball, and the couple had six children.  He went to college to get a degree in Theology, but going to school, working multiple jobs, and raising a family proved too much for his health. Carl and his family moved to Colorado, where he worked at a self-supporting health retreat. He suffered a devastating blow when, while moving irrigation pipes, he was electrocuted when one of the pipes hit a high-voltage power line.  Carl was hospitalized for three months with wounds on his hands and feet.

After 21 years of marriage, Carl and Rose divorced. In 1978, he married Lavada McFarlane, who had three children of her own.

Carl worked as a professional house painter, eventually owning his own business in the Napa Valley. He did excellent work and was sought after by many prominent people who wanted him to paint their homes and wineries. In his retirement, he loved to share memories of his experiences with the rich and famous.

Carl’s hobby was buying used and damaged cars, repairing and reselling them. He was good at it, and the hobby helped to keep his children and grandchildren supplied with dependable vehicles.

Carl loved his children and grandchildren. He and his wife would take the grandchildren camping to give their parents a break for the weekend.

Carl enjoyed spending time with family and friends. And he enjoyed being involved with his church. He was loved and respected by those who knew him. He is sleeping until the second coming of his Savior.

A memorial service has been delayed due to his wife’s illness.
