Obituary of Oscar Gerald Leonard
Oscar Gerald Leonard, age 91, passed away May 16, 2024.
Gene was born in Columbia, Missouri on November 6, 1932 to George and Betty Leonard.
During his childhood his family moved around often, settling in Marysville, CA.
Gene graduated from Marysville High School in 1950, having spent his time playing clarinet as a member of the marching band, and where he met his future wife Pat Muller, offering her a piece of gum to break the ice.
Married on New Years Day, 1954, so that he wouldn’t forget his anniversary, Pat and Gene were happily married for 53 years, until her passing in 2007.
Shortly after high school, he proudly served in the United States Navy during the Korean Conflict, serving his time on the USS Greer County (LST 799).
After Gene was honorably discharged, he began a lifelong career at PG&E, first as a transportation yard clerk, working his way up to transportation supervisor of the Colgate Division, which he retired from in
November 1990. Gene was a lifelong fan of Beale Air Force Base and the SR-71 Blackbird. He enjoyed sketching and geology, curating an extensive rock collection, which he enjoyed sharing with his grandchildren.
Gene is survived by his daughters Debra Naso, Dee Dee Barefield, son David Leonard, and 5 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Pat, brother Art Leonard, and sister Dovie Stanley.
A funeral will be held at 11am, Friday, May 31, 2024, at Sierra View Memorial Park, 4900 Olive Ave, Olivehurst, CA.
Following the funeral there will be a celebration of life reception at the Harvest Room, 1465 Tharp Road, Yuba City, CA.
