Obituary of Tommy Joseph Pfeffer

Please share a memory of Tommy to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Tom Pfeffer, passed away on February 9, 2023 surrounded by his loving family.

Tom was born on January 4th, 1939, to parents Ansel & Freda Pfeffer in Noble County, Ohio. The middle of three sons, Tom was raised and worked on a dairy farm his father owned. After graduating high school, he went to work for the FBI in Washington, D.C.

There he met the love of his life, Jean Campbell, who also worked for the FBI. They were married in Kentucky, honeymooned across the United States & planned their life in California.

Tom, surprisingly was drafted at the age of 24 in 1962 and did his basic at Fort Ord and then was assigned to Fort Carson, Colorado. Tom smooth-talked his way into becoming the private chauffeur for a Major the next two years. While in Colorado Springs, they welcomed their first daughter. After finishing his two years in the service, the family moved back to Yuba City, where they welcomed another daughter and son in the following years.

Tom and his father acquired what would become Pfeffer's Liquor store in 1966 and Tom managed it for twelve years. During this time he earned his contractor's license and he and his father started TAC Construction.

Tom was elected to the Yuba City Council in 1975, where he served for eight years including two terms as Mayor. He then was elected to Sutter County Board of Supervisors in 1982 where he served another eight years including two terms as Chariman. There was rarely a community event that Tom didn't participate in or a dedication of something that he missed during that time, all of which allowed him to beam with pride of what he helped accomplish.

Tom volunteered in other community organizations such as being a member of the Board of Directors of the Beale Military Liaison Committee, a director on the Fremont-Rideout Building Committee, member of Early Risers Kiwanis and one term on the Grand Jury.

An avid golfer, Tom was a long-time member of Peach Tree Country Club and was able to golf at over 120 gold courses throughout the country. He and Jean loved to vacation in Carmel, Hawaii and Mexico.

Tom is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Jean (March 12th would have been their 63rd anniversary), his three children, Becky Darwazeh, Jill Patrick (John), Todd Pfeffer (Jennifer), his brother Jerry Pfeffer (Ann), Kim Darwazeh who was like a son to him, and his five beautiful grandchildren who loved him dearly, Hannah, Katey & Lily Patrick & Calvin and Brody Pfeffer.

Tom will be laid to rest in a private interment at Sierra View Mortuary & Memorial Park. An open house Celebration of Life will be held on March 12th at 2 o'clock at the Peach Tree Country Club.
