Obituary of Janice Marlene Baucom

Please share a memory of Janice to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Jan Baucom, 85, of Hallwood, went to be with Jesus Christ, her Lord and Savior, on October 15, 2022.
Jan was born on Christmas Eve, 1936 in Marysville, California. She was the eldest child of Hughie and Lorene Baker.
Jan married Mel, her “Carolina Kid”, in 1954, at the ripe ages of 17 and 20. They were married for 63 years until Mel’s passing in 2017.
While Jan was primarily a homemaker, she also worked seasonally for Del Monte Cannery in Yuba City serving in multiple roles over the years. Later, Jan became a dried fruit inspector for DFA, a job that she loved. Her expertise with walnut quality was well regarded. Jan’s life was her family and her church. She loved being the World Missions President for many years at the Hallwood Church of the Nazarene. Jan also served many years as a church board member and the Sunday School teacher for the adult Crusaders class. She was well-known for always remembering those in her class with special cards and notes. The calendar says Jan passed away on “The Sweetest Day”
which is “a day to be sweet by sharing a kind thought or a gesture of kindness; a day to give a card with a sweet message to someone you appreciate”. Her family feels it’s no coincidence that Jan decided to leave us on The Sweetest Day as it was her mission in life to share God’s love and let people know she appreciated them.

Jan raised her 3 sons to be good, hard-working men. Having no daughters, she made sure that her sons knew how to do homemaking chores just as well as the hard outside work they did with their dad. Her daughters in law have reaped the benefits and appreciated this progressive thinking!
Jan was well known for her cooking, baking and canning. She put on the best Sunday dinners after church. It was frequently difficult for others to replicate her recipes as she would say “Oh, I just put in a little of this or a bit of that”. Her roast beef, mashed potatoes, home-canned peaches and “Chocolate Delight” were always welcome additions to the table

.
Jan is survived by her three cherished sons, Terry (Iris); Scott (Leslie); and Randy (Tracy); her six precious grandchildren, Aaron (Eva Mae), Kyle, Jeffrey, Sean, Kelly, and Kristin; her beloved sister, Betty Campbell; and her numerous and loved nieces and nephews. Jan was preceded in death by her husband, Mel Baucom; her brother, Bob Baker; and her parents, Hughie and Lorene Baker.
All are invited to a Celebration of Life service at the Hallwood Church of the Nazarene on Wednesday, October 26, 2022, at 1pm. A family graveside service will be held prior. Services are under the direction
of Sierra View Mortuary. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Jan’s name to the Hallwood Church of the Nazarene.
