It is with great sadness that the Deeds family announces the death of Marta Virginia Deeds. She passed on December 12, 2021, with her husband Robert, and sons by her side.
Marta was born December 1, 1939, the oldest of 4 children to Maria Quintero Jones and Eduardo Hernandez.
She learned to sing, play guitar, mandolin and dance at a young age and had toured the country of Mexico with her sisters. Marta also earned her teaching credential in Mexico where she taught elementary school. Marta brought her smile positive attitude and skills into these United States in 1964. She began working in the migrant camps of Gridley teaching singing and dancing. She went to Yuba college where she met Robert and decided she was going to make her home in Wheatland Ca. She began her 38-year career at Marysville Joint Unified as a preschool teacher. During the summer she would work at the work camp in Yuba City. Marta loved to dance so she got a dance troupe together then she was the choreographer at Yuba College dancing Ballet de Folklorico. She was a member of the Yuba Sutter Art Council. She was involved in the Yuba-Sutter Mexican American community. Marta would often show up at the festivals wearing handmade dresses that her mom had made. She would sing and dance old traditional Mexican songs. In retirement, Marta still substituted at the schools and was a Spanish tutor. Marta believed in God and the teachings of Jesus and actively did her part throughout her life helping others in the community.
In lieu of flowers please make contributions to the Arts Council of Yuba Sutter or the migrant education of the local communities. Viewing will be held at Sierra View from 3pm to 6pm on 12/28/2021. Services will be held at Sierra View on 12/29/2021 at 12pm. Immediately followed by graveside service at Wheatland Cemetery. A celebration of life will be a potluck gathering at the American Legion Post 807 located at 5477 Feather River Boulevard.
