Philomena Amelia "Phyllis" Parks Obituary

Phyllis (Krenzel) Parks was born on June 12, 1928 in Orin, North Dakota to Charles and

Christina (Heisler) Krenzel. She passed away at the age of 93 years on Tuesday, July 13, 2021

She graduated from Rugby High School in 1946. She attended the Sister’s of St. Joseph

School of Nursing, graduating in 1950. She entered the U.S.A.F in 1953.

Phyllis served in the United States Air Force Nurse Corps during the Korean War. She was a

flight nurse and chief nurse in the United States Air Force Medical Unit. She also served in the

California National Guard and United States Army Reserve medical unit. After twenty-two

years of military active and reserve duty, she retired as an officer. She received the Soldier’s

Medal for Outstanding Meritorious Service.

She continued her nursing career in civilian life. She was nurse manager in the nursery and the

preemie intensive care nursery at UCD. She also worked as a nurse in the Sacramento county

jail, in a teen rehab center and in home care. She was honored by her home care agency for

her work. She worked in acute facilities and in convalescent hospitals.

Phyllis married Francis “Frank” Parks on July 28, 1962 in Littleton, CO. They moved to Yuba

City, CA in 1965, and resided there for over 45 years. She attended Saint Isidore Catholic

Church in Yuba City and was an active member in YLI.

She was an avid reader and she enjoyed traveling. Phyllis attended bible study and her faith

was very important to her. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She loved her

grandchildren and was very involved in their lives.

Phyllis is survived by her husband, Frank; her three children, Elizabeth Parks of Sacramento,CA

Dale Parks (Natalie) of Yuba City, CA and Karen Helfand (Scott) of Rocklin, CA; four

grandchildren, Zachary Helfand of Lincoln, CA, Ariel Helfand of Rocklin, CA, Alan Parks of

Yuba City, CA and Elaine Parks of Yuba City, CA; one sister Felicitas Schneibel of Littleton, CO;

many nieces, nephews and other relatives. Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents,

grandson, Justin Helfand; brothers, Emil, Isidore, Ivo, Rudolph, Bernard and Pius; sisters,

Lydia, Rose, Mary, Bertha and Clara.

Visitation and Rosary: Wednesday, July 28th from 3:00 - 7:00 p.m.
