Obituary of Eugene Lee Laughlin
In the early hours on July 2nd heaven recruited another angel. Eugene Laughlin, the man who was there to lend a helping hand, the man who’d NEVER met a stranger, and the man who lived life to its fullest, passed away peacefully in his sleep at home. Gene was a hardworking man with many friends in the community. All you had to do was ask for a favor and it was granted. Gene was known by many names, he was called Kansas by his childhood friends, Grandpa Furr, McVey or Gene, depending on which grandson was playing that day. He didn’t hunt or fish, but he loved his grandson’s football games and could be found doing down markers on fields from youth football all the way to American River College. He loved his family, the 49ers, and NASCAR in that order. He and his beloved wife traveled around the world. In his last years all three of his daughters began cruising and attending NASCAR races with them, making wonderful memories. He is survived by his wife of 69 years Marie Laughlin, daughters Patti Laughlin Price (Wes), Cindy Laughlin Clark (Jim Harbour) and Suzanne Laughlin McVey (Flint). Seven grandchildren, Kenny Furr, Mike Furr, Jody Shortridge, Flint McVey, Chad McVey, Heather Wilde and Adam Price and 16 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Elfo Laughlin and Zona Rogers Laughlin, and 9 brothers and sisters. Services will be held Monday July 9th 11:00AM Sierra View Mortuary with a reception to follow at the Elks Lodge, D Street, Marysville.
