Rodney Elwyn Miller Obituary

Rodney Elwyn Miller passed away peacefully on March 28, 2026, surrounded by the love of his daughters. Born on August 23, 1944, in Burlington, Vermont, Rodney entered the world as the son of Katherine Rose Miller and was later adopted by Walter Miller, who helped shape the strong, steady man he became.

At just 17 years old, Rodney enlisted in the United States Army. He served with honor and pride, becoming a tank specialist — a role that reflected his courage, discipline, and determination. While stationed in Killeen, Texas, he met the love of his life, Betty Lou Foster. For both of them, it was love at first sight, and together they built a life filled with devotion, partnership, and family.

After his military service, Rodney spent 35 years as a beekeeper for Strachan in Yuba City, a job he performed with dedication and pride. He also participated in the Relay for Life through the American Cancer Society for six years with his entire family under the team name Sotopop. In his very first year, he was awarded for walking the most laps during the 24‑hour walk‑a‑thon — a testament to his determination and spirit.

Rodney was stern, funny, loving, and deeply caring. He had a unique way of checking in on his family — calling his grandkids Cheecha, Darlene, Joey, Teddy, just to check on the crumb snatchers, and calling his daughters simply to remind them how much he loved them. His humor, his voice, and his steady presence will be missed more than words can express.

Rodney is survived by his three daughters: Corine Curiel (Jose), Kathy Benningfield (Joe), and Tammy Soto; along with 15 grandchildren, 41 great‑grandchildren, and 1 great‑great‑granddaughter. His family was his greatest joy, and each generation carries a piece of his heart.

He is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Betty Lou Miller (Foster); his only son, Teddy A. Miller; his mother, Katherine Rose Miller; his father, Walter Miller; his sister, Norma McQuillian; and his twin brother, Robert Miller. Rodney is now reunited with his wife and son, a reunion that brings comfort to those who loved him.

Pallbearers will be: Joe Benningfield, Juan Lopez, Joey Soto, Joshua Lopez, Teddy Miller, and Chase Warren.

Rodney will be remembered for his strength, his humor, his loyalty, and the deep love he had for his family. His legacy lives on in the generations he leaves behind and in the countless memories he created with those who loved him.

He will be truly missed.
