Sherry Marie Steiber Obituary

With deep sorrow and love, we mourn the passing of Sherry Marie Steiber (nee Frazier), who passed away on December 30, 2025 at her home in Orangevale, CA, at the age of 64. Sherry was born on August 6, 1961, in Baltimore, MD. She was the youngest of six children who spent their early years in Ellicott City, Maryland, in a historic home surrounded by forest. Two years after her mother Madeline died, the family moved to Phoenix, Arizona, where she was raised by her stepmother Suzanne. The family were brought up in the Catholic faith and enjoyed singing and playing instruments. Sherry was a self-taught pianist with a lovely singing voice, who enjoyed hiking and spending time outdoors. She graduated from Arcadia High School with honors and she excelled in mathematics, finishing calculus in high school. She applied for a scholarship and accepted one for San Diego State College where she enjoyed sailing on Mission Bay, but left college after a year to pursue other interests.

Sherry had a long-term relationship with Lee Nagle, traveling with him around the western United States in an RV and doing various work in medical transcription and legal documentation. They often spent the winter house-sitting for an elderly friend who owned a home on the shore of Lake Tahoe. When her father, Bob Frazier, and sister Maureen came to Lake Tahoe to compete in the Catalina 22 national races in 1995, she enjoyed serving as crew for family friends from Arizona. Her sisters Diane and Maureen often visited Sherry in Lake Tahoe where they spent hours hiking and skiing.

When Lee died of brain cancer in 2007, she moved the RV to Oceanside, California, where she worked at a local Best Buy. She met Jeff Steiber later that year at Camping World in San Marcos when he was six years out recovering from his cancer, and they were blessed with 16 years of a wonderful and loving partnership. They eventually moved to the Sacramento area, where they were married and bought a home in Orangevale. Sherry and Jeff traveled on many motorcycle trips out of San Diego and up and down the eastern Sierra, both with and without his motorcycle buddies. It became one of their favorite pastimes to go camping and fishing in the Sierras or ride up and down the California coast. They both enjoyed the Lake Tahoe area, and Sherry eventually purchased a cabin in South Lake Tahoe.

Sherry’s husband Jeff survived multiple cancers in his life but eventually succumbed to mouth and throat cancer. Following the treatment, he suffered a heart attack that resulted in brain damage and limited mobility. Sherry was his devoted caregiver for three years before he passed away at age 52 in 2023.

Sherry struggled for several years with her grief, aided by family visits to support her. In October of 2025, she talked to her sisters about a new relationship she had formed and that she had joined an organization that helped homeless individuals to find residences. On December 30, 2025, she was found dead in her home in Orangevale. Her cause of death was undetermined, and her family continues to seek answers to what happened. Sherry is survived by her siblings: Kathleen Urso, Diane Frazier, Suzanne Harbster, Maureen Rojas,  Daniel Frazier and stepsister Mikel Sykes.
