Gary Lee Stubby, husband, father, and proud United States Navy veteran, passed away in Plumas Lake, CA on March 1, 2025 at the age of 70.

Born on Jan. 24, 1955 in Quinter, KS, Gary was raised in Burlington, KS and is a 1973 graduate of Burlington High School. Gary enlisted in the United States Navy in 1976 and served proudly and honorably for 20 years. During his tenure, Gary served aboard the USS William H. Standley (DLG/CG-32), the USS Barney (DDG-6), and the USS Gary (FFG-51), was a veteran of the Persian Gulf War, and achieved the rank of Chief Petty Officer. 

Gary married his high school sweetheart, Carla Halpain, in 1975. Together they shared 26 years of marriage and had four children, Amanda Ehrlich (Todd) of Olathe, KS, Brandi Higgins (Justin) of Kansas City, MO, Camron Stubby (Jena) of Owasso, OK, and Ashlee Reeder (Preston) of Uniontown, KS, and 13 grandchildren. 

After his military service, Gary went on to a career as an electrician and groundskeeper. He moved to Washington state in 2000, where he found love again and married Terri Davis in 2003. They shared a life together with their son, Brian Davis of Yuba City, CA, and Terri’s children, Adam Davis of Chico, CA, Annie Merrill (Gary), of Plumas Lake, CA, Patricia Larkin (Jonathon) of Franklin, KY, and 12 grandchildren. 

Gary Lee Stubby was preceded in death by his father, Otto B. Stubby, mother, Nettie Mae Klatt, brother, Lowell Scheikofsky, sister, Sharon Jones, and granddaughter, Scarlett Gail Reeder.
